1, Tell us about you, and your writing (themes, influences etc.)
Hi, I’m Jasmine. I have been writing most of my life, but I only seriously commited to writing and sharing my words in the last couple years. I write a lot of broken-hearted poetry and have recently branched out to broader themes. I am starting a new project where I will be writing about a lot more than love and loss but the details are still being ironed out. I have a lot of influences in the poetry community such as Amanda Lovelace, Cyrus Parker, Gretchen Gomez, Shelby Leigh, and so many more talented writers.
2, What are some of the ways in which you promote your work, and do you find these add, or eat into, your time writing?
I normally use Instagram, or Twitter, to promote work. I don’t spend much time promoting my work outside of these ways. This normally doesn’t cut into my writing time. I spend way more time on writing and reading poetry than I do thinking of promoting my work right now.
3, What projects are you working on at present?
I just released my second poetry collection titled painful broken sunshine, which I have been working on for over six months. There are a few trigger warnings at the beginning of the title so if you do read it, be sure to keep safe. I wrote about the pain of being abused as a child, being heartbroken, and findng true love. I am also planning on starting a new project, but you’ll have to stay tuned to my Instagram for more details!
4, What does poetry mean to you?
Poetry means the world to me. It’s how I express feelings and help myself move forward with anything happening in my life. I write a lot about being broken-hearted, but I am actually getting the hang of writing love poems too. Poetry from fellow writers have helped me get through some of the most difficult situations I’ve faced in the recent years. Without poetry, I don’t know where I would be.
life’s a journey. there’s family, love, growing, heartbreak, and tragedy. this title explores the ups and downs of life’s journey. life is a painful, beautiful, broken piece of sunshine.
