Book Review. Hera Lindsay Bird by Hera Lindsay Bird.

‘who made her feel like
her dreams were stupid
and a waste of time
and that kind of constant belittlement
can do
terrible things to a person
so maybe getting really upset
when people don’t use coasters
is an understandable, or at least
comparatively sane response
to the psychic baggage
of your parents never
having believed in you.’

I had to read Hera Lindsay Bird by Hera Lindsay Bird a couple of times before I started to identify parts of the poems that I liked, and it grew on me. Monica was a recognizable poem, having gone viral a few years ago. I liked that the beginning and end poems were continuous, four lines each page. It had a pleasing effect and allowed room for the poetry to breathe.  Also, the book cover terrifies me.
