Maybe this time, this is when the Revolution arrives dressed as kindness. People helping each other despite their differences. Understanding, truly, that without The aid of others We would be all alone in this.
This was the first collection of poetry by Nikita Gill that I had read and the more times I read it, the more my appreciation of it grew.
The poems in this collection were written during 2020 and with the backdrop of the Pandemic. The writing reflects on the loss and devastation that has been caused during this period. Not least the buildings left standing by the businesses that have closed and never reopened, which mirror the fates of the people who inhabited them. ‘I saw that the pub we love now has a for sale sign in the window’ and ‘I worry about Lou who manned the bar, always a smile for everyone. I worry that Charlie and Mary may not be able to find jobs.’
There was a poem in Where Hope Comes From On Hindsight ‘all of this resolution is too late because I did not appreciate life’s magic when it was in my hands’ and there are a few poems like this one, expressing the what if’s.
